Welcome to our glorious end-of-year tasting of French Champagne! We’re embracing Champagne in all its aspects – celebrating Grand Marque houses we all recognize, Veuve Clicquot and Moët & Chandon, as well as tiny artisan growers in the Côte des Blancs, Montagne de Reims and the Aube. We’ll finish off with Champagne Krug, as iconic as it gets, famed for only making Tête de Cuvées.
Producers you can look forward to meeting:
• Jean-Marc Sélèque, one of Champagne’s brightest young stars, based in the Coteaux Sud d’Epernay. • J. Lassalle, in the Montagne de Reims, run by a mother- daughter team whose motto is “One woman, one spirit, one style”.
• Pierre Moncuit, another mother-daughter team, in the Grand Cru village of Mesnil-sur-Oger since 1889. Their Champagnes are all vintage, using no reserves.
• Barnaut, a family property in the Grand Cru village of Bouzy since 1874, long-recognized for their Pinot Noir based Champagnes.
• Pierre Gerbais, 4th generation growers in the Aube, with 45 acres of old vines, organically farmed.
• Drappier, another Aube house, established around a medieval abbey in 1808. “Pinot Noir runs in our veins”, and they also protect heirloom varieties. Stylistically, there will be something for everyone, and the quality will be through the roof!
