New to the historic winelands of South Africa? Through the impressive estate of Babylonstoren, we’ll explore the Simonsberg-Paarl appellation, lying 30 miles inland from Cape Town. Cellarmaster Charl Coetzee will share his deep knowledge of this gorgeous wine country, established in the 1600’s as intrepid sailors rounded the Cape. Babylonstoren’s 250+ acres grow 13 different varietals, with the highest vines 2000 feet above sea level, with stunning views of the famed Simonsberg range. Charl will highlight their forward-thinking winemaking, including the use of amphorae clay pots, open cement fermenters and concrete eggs. We’ll showcase the entire range of Babylonstoren, and dip in to their exceptional olive oil too! You’ll sample: Chenin Blanc (a South African specialty), “Candide” White (Chard, Semillon, Chenin), Chardonnay, Mourvèdre Rosé, ‘Babel’ Red (Shiraz, Pinotage), Cabernet Sauvignon, and the flagship Nebukadnesar (Bordeaux style).
