2006 Kathryn Kennedy Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Cruz Mountains

Winemaker Notes: This vintage comes from a extra warm growing season and has yielded a powerful, flamboyant Cabernet with brooding dark flavors of sweet black cherry syrup and deep forest impressions. Earthy minerals, dark chocolate raspberry and balsamic flavors are presented on a very plush and thick palate.

Now 15 years old, this bottling still shows complex aromas of roasted strawberry, ashy wood, mashed olive, espresso bean and damp mushroom. The palate remains as fresh as many new Cabs, with polished tannins offering dark fruit, dried porcini and bittersweet cocoa flavors."


Vinous - "Opaque ruby. Deeply pitched, mineral-accented aromas of cherry compote, cassis, pipe tobacco and licorice. Picks up floral and spice character with air, along with a touch of cracked pepper. Sweet and expansive, offering ripe dark fruit flavors and notes of licorice pastille and mocha. Showing more power and brawn than the 2005 today, and I don't think that's just a function of youth. Sexy vanillin oak and fruitcake notes linger on a persistent, penetrating, taut finish. 92+"

Possessing fine tannin, a solid mid-palate, and beautiful length, it's drinking beautifully today, with a great mix of fruit and secondary aromas and flavors, but it will keep for another decade."
