Winemaker Notes: After a cold winter in 2010, bud burst was later than usual in the vineyards. Rain in June affected the flowering. Thanks to this natural selection a green harvest was not necessary. From June 21st, summer began in earnest with beautiful sunshine, and continued thus into July; here the vines and grapes made up for lost time. The month of August was dry with cool nights, which allowed the slow and steady ripening of the grapes. The harvest took place under excellent conditions, with the grapes coming in perfect health.

Blend: 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot

CRITICAL ACCLAIM

Neal Martin - “Tasted blind at the Southwold Bordeaux 2010 tasting. This is a great La Tour Martillac that must be one of the finest releases from the estate in recent years. It has quite an elegant understated bouquet with autumn leaves infusing the black fruit profile, later tobacco and cigar box. Good vigour and class. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity on the entry. It is underpinned by good structure, with plenty of red and black fruit and an engaging delineated finish brimming with energy. There is some high quality terroir and fruit here.”

Wine Enthusiast - “This is an austere, structured wine. Its tannic framework currently dominates, giving the impression of a firm wine. It feels like classic Bordeaux, upright and dense. This makes for a wine that will need several years’ aging.”

Vinous - "The 2010 La Tour Martillac vindicates itself as perhaps the ”insiders’ choice” from Pessac-Leognan. It has a well defined bouquet with blackberry, cassis, black olive and estuarine scents bouquet that is very complex and involving. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity and a pinch of black pepper towards the smooth and harmonious finish. It remains very backward but there is immense potential here. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners 10-Year On Bordeaux horizontal."

Wine Spectator - "Dense, but supple along the edges, offering a packed core of cassis, blackberry and black cherry fruit. The lovely licorice, dark tobacco and violet notes glide to the finish, which shows solid, latent grip. Best from 2015 through 2025. 12,500 cases made."
